Summer has finally arrived in Calgary and it's time to get outside and enjoy the warm weather! If you're up for a swim, here are the best places to do it in and around Calgary.
Mount Pleasant Outdoor Pool
Mount Pleasant Outdoor Pool is run by the Calgary Outdoor Swimming Pools Association (COSPA). It's curvy with a nice shallow end for kids, a middle section for lane swimming, and waterslides. Families can purchase a day pass for $15.75. Visitors can use the pool's floating toys, too! A great spot to enjoy a hot day.
Silver Springs Outdoor Pool
If you're looking for a large outdoor pool, this one is 33 metres long and 12.5 metres wide with a deep end for diving. It features a 1-metre springboard with stairs and a 3-metre platform with stairs for diving -- perfect for Calgarians who like to take the plunge.
Riley Park Pool
If you have kids, or your friends or family members do, you owe it to them to plan a visit to Riley Park Pool. It's a fabulous wading pool with an island in the middle and trees around it. Perfect for tiny tots who want to cool down and splash around on a hot day. Admission is free!
Chestermere Lake
Just a 27-minute drive from Calgary, this 4.8-km lake is the perfect place to cool down on a hot summer day. You can swim in areas marked by buoys near Anniversary Park and John Peake Park. Chestermere Lake has beach admission fees for non-residents to avoid overcrowding due to COVID-19.
Sikome Lake
Sikome Lake is a man-made beach in south Calgary. It's open from June to September and is a great spot to go for a swim, especially with kiddos in tow as it has lots of shallow water. There's a sandy beach to lounge on, too. It's located in Fish Creek Provincial Park which boasts over 100km of walking, biking and hiking trails. Expect to pay an admission fee. Families can visit for $10.00, adults for $5.00, seniors for $4.00, and children for $3.00. Season passes are available as well.
